We lost another cat that I haven’t previously written about in addition to Iris: CoCo. She was with us for nearly as long as Iris, and passed at about the same age of 19 years. In her last days CoCo stopped eating and according to Irene started being unstable on her feet. We had CoCo put down on December 17- sadly, I have no memories of the event as it took place as part of my missing time event so memories are sketchy at best and missing entirely at worst.
It perhaps seems a little bit grim to be recounting the loss of two cats in quick succession months after they passed. I struggled a bit with the decision to post at all, but Irene reminded me that we use this blog in part as our own memory archive. If CoCo and Iris aren’t memorialized here in some fashion we might forget in five or six years exactly when we lost them. I know I would regret that loss of detail despite the fact that seeing this post reminds me of CoCo’s passing each time I will see it in the future.
CoCo was adopted by Irene from a shelter in Langley- she kind of adopted Irene rather than the other way around. CoCo was always more Irene’s cat than mine, but she was also a sweet little thing who glommed on to me from time to time. Generally she got along with all of our other cats without any real signs of friction: but she was more of a human bonded cat rather than one who sought out other felines for company.
In terms of appearance CoCo was supposedly a ‘snowshoe’ siamese type, but she was bluntly shaped with stubby little legs and a short tail with a crook in the end. She was definitively not a purebred of any description regardless of her colouring. I often called her our “football” cat because of her, well, ovoid football shape. Not exactly svelte or elegant, but that little body of hers worked out just fine for getting around for 19 years.
I will surely miss our little football, and wish I could remember her last days with us. Time steals so much from us, however.

So sorry to hear about losing your cats. I lost my cat this April after 19yrs. Many people came to

I read about Marmite (hope I got his name right!) and he definitely seemed like a real character 🙂 Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog- it is a rare appearance from the family that I appreciate.
They bring so much joy that the sadness at the end seems like it would be a small price to pay- but it still hurts. I suppose the fact that we feel so strongly says something positive about us… and them.
