I was surprised a short while ago when I realized that my blog was cross-posting all of my posts to LinkedIn. I don’t really live on LinkedIn at all- my account there was created more or less because a couple of decades or so ago my employer made it effectively mandatory.

I have nothing against LinkedIn exactly, although I find the whole work til you drop mega efficiency mindset common there to be unpleasant. AI! Cloud! GTD! It is tiring enough knowing about that stuff, but reading about it in 90% of the posts on the platform starts to feel far too much like work.

That leaves the question: why is my blog posting to LinkedIn to begin with? Sadly I have no satisfying answer to this one, just a guess.

A hypothesis

I spent a bunch of time trying to get my blog to crosspost to my Facebook feed. This included installing a couple of WordPress plugins in addition to Jetpack. The main one I tried was WP Social. Ultimately it was a wasted effort: FB does not permit services to post to personal feeds, only to pages or groups. But I suspect that one of the things I tried likely activated the LinkedIn feed.

LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft, so its addition isn’t anything nefarious by Facebook. More likely it was one of the WordPress plugins I tried attempting to be helpful. Either that or I activated LinkedIn myself and just forgot it: certainly a possibility, I suppose.

Step #1 was to remove the LinkedIn crossposting: again, nothing against LinkedIn, but it really isn’t the right audience for my blog especially now that I’m retired. Curiously, my BlueSky feed which previously existed was gone. That also required fixing.

Jetpack=> Settings=> Sharing, connect accounts and configure social sharing

Putting BlueSky back

Reactivating BlueSky is a simple matter of connecting it again via the WordPress Jetpack interface and digging out my app API key again. For the record, my Bluesky account is @kgadams.net. I’ve deactivated the Linke

Getting an App password for Bluesky is something I did months ago

I think I have my social sharing back to the way I want it. We shall see! Apologies to the folks on LinkedIn who probably found this whole thing quite confusing. I mean, where is the KPI, the ROI, the SWAG, or a reference to reducing headcount through use of AI assisted Vibe coding?

Not here. that’s for sure 😉
