Irene has been sorting through a collection of paper items from the past several decades. Maybe this should have been completed before we moved. But it is surprisingly time consuming, and I don’t blame Irene for deferring it.
A lot of this material is freighted with emotion. Letters from friends and family who have died or who are estranged from us for various reasons. Cards and keepsakes… it is hard to let go of those, but for the most part we must. But we also allow ourselves the luxury of preserving a few such items. Like this hand-made card my friend Chris sent us…
Irene and I opened our gifts a couple of hours ago. We both received lots of wonderful things, but most of all we got the best gift of all: each other.
Each year at Christmas time I like to take a moment to reflect upon everyone who is not so fortunate, or who as I often do lacks the will to see their good fortune for what it is. I’m so very lucky. I’m basically healthy, as is everyone in my immediate circle of friends and family. We have enough for essentials plus a great deal of non-essentials.
It’s December 25th…I’m still wearing my PJs and robe and it’s fast approaching noon- it must be a good day 🙂
Christmas has been good to Irene and I this year. We have each other, and our cats are all healthy and happy at the moment. We are going over to my Sister and Brother-in-law’s place in a couple of hours, where we’ll have a happy day of time with the family. Surrounded by loved ones, enjoying food and company- that’s what Christmas is about for me.
