Smokin’ hot CPU
We had a power failure today at our house while I was at work. When I got home I restarted my web server and it ran for about a minute then shut itself off. I tried this a second time, and enjoyed a repeat performance.
Black holes, LHC, Star Wars, quantum uncertainty… if it is of general geek interest, but doesn’t fit into one of the other categories, it lands here.

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day. I’m more or less anti-war, pro-peace. But I have a ton of respect for people who serve their country and put themselves in harms way.
I’m prone to forget what Remembrance Day is all about- I don’t think I’m alone in that. But I really shouldn’t ever forget- my Mom is a World War II veteran. She served overseas as part of Canada’s armed forces. A volunteer like all women, she chose to disrupt her life, to take the risk.
I just spent fifteen minutes or so trying to figure out why a blog post I edited here disappeared. Apparently, between my blog editor (Ecto) and my blog software (WordPress), I have discovered a new form of time travel.
Kansas has enacted new laws to permit instruction in “Intelligent Design” (I.E. God created Earth and all life 6,000 years ago…) in schools. At first, I was horrified by this: school is for instruction in math, sciences, literature and history, not for the teaching of faith masquerading as fact. I’m worn out and tired today. I’m feeling like I’m starting to catch a cold. It rained all day, and my car still isn’t fixed.
As I shuffled about the house, trying to keep my last few functioning neurons firing, I realized it was good to be alive. I also realized I hadn’t posted anything to my blog in a week, and the best I could come up with was to post about how worn out I am.
Two secretaries at an Australian law firm lost their jobs a few days ago. Apparently they exchanged a series of escalating emails (read the series of emails from the bottom up) that all started with one of the secretaries either misplacing or having her lunch stolen.
Google, everyone’s favorite search engine, has been on an amazing winning streak. Everything they touch seems to turn golden. Their technical brilliance is lauded by millions. Even part of their corporate philosophy, “You can make money without being evil“, strikes a friendly chord: they can truly do no wrong.
Google’s latest stunning innovation announcement is something called Google Purge. Beginning in mere weeks, Google will begin destroying all information they can’t index. Its all part of their effort to meet the user’s demands to make the world simple, clean and accessible- just like Google’s main search page.

I came across this article earlier today by some guy who I don’t know about some other guys I don’t know and how the other guys blogs no longer rule the Blogosphere or something.
