I’m not a big fan of Southpark. I find its “humour” to generally be too crude for my tastes. But every once in a while I catch an episode, and now and then it’s funny without diving too deeply into toilet humour.

An extra month…
I mentioned a couple of posts ago how our cat Susu had fought back from a serious illness. A few days ago, she took a turn for the worse and stopped eating again. Susu didn’t have the strength to fight back this time. We took her to the vet just a few hours ago, and released her from her pain. Irene and I were there with her at the last breath.
Visiting folks
Irene and I went to visit my sister Connie today and to see the house she bought and refurbished. She’s done a really nice job taking an older home that had been used and abused and turning it around. Lots of TLC has gone into the place, but more importantly it’s her house- and it has a yard!
Sadie is gone…
Our dog Sadie has been suffering increasingly from debilitating pain in her right front shoulder during the past few months. We’ve had her on several increasingly strong arthritis medications with no obvious beneficial effect.
Survivor
Susu, one of our cats, has been very ill the last few weeks. It started with sneezing and runny eyes, and progressed to her curled in a corner and refusing to eat and drink. This is an emergency situation for cats, and so the vet was called in. A bit over two weeks ago the vet diagnosed Susu as having a severe upper respiratory infection (sinuses and a touch of pneumonia) and gave us antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids to give her. I was taught how to wield a needle to insert the IV, and we spent a few days nursing her at home.
More catching up…our Anniversary!
Cracking open the vaults of time again….Irene and I celebrated our anniversary back in July (July 14, to be exact). We took a little 2 day vacation for our anniversary this year, heading to the island on Friday and returning on Monday. We spent the night in Chemanus, at the Castlebury Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Pictures from Chris’ visit
Back in the olden days (June, 2006), my best friend Chris came out to the coast for a vacation. We visited, and I posted some pictures from one day of the time he was here.
Long silence…catching up
I haven’t been posting here for a loooong time: over a month, I think. So, what’s up?
In the past month, I’ve been doing the following things:
- spent a lot of time exploring Second Life
- caught and started recovering from a really bad cold. I’m still sick, but gradually returning to normal
- worked
- took a weekend holiday with Irene for our anniversary
- posted some pictures to the gallery here from when my friend Chris was visiting
Comatose man wakes up after 19 years…brain “rewires” itself
I was reading an article today about a man who was in a coma, in what they call a persistent vegetative state, for 19 years who “woke up “in 2003. Terry Wallis, the coma victim, had regained his power of speech and his mobility, and had clear memories of his life before the coma. Terry has awakened to a world where his one year old son is now 20, and Ronald Regan hasn’t been president in decades.

Computers are stupid…
My Mom is a pretty smart lady. She grew up during the great depression, served overseas in the Second World War rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. She raised six kids, several of us largely as a single mom on a small salary. Thanks to her, we all turned out pretty well.
