I’ve basically trimmed myself down to The Guardian for news daily, with glances at The Globe and Mail and DW, which you may note are all non-US based news services. They don’t tend to over dwell on things or do the NYT thing where the normalize crazy.

We only watch cable news on election night or when something bad is happening, like the attack on the US capital. I remember the era Bhagpuss references, where there was just news on in the evening, though I will counter with the fact that we also got two newspapers daily and three news magazines weekly. I don’t think I was any less informed in the 70s and 80s, the sources were just slower and probably more thoughtful. And then came the Gulf War in 91/92 and suddenly everybody had CNN on and running all waking hours.
