No, it’s not that much more expensive. That’s not what I meant. But I do not have the disposable income to by a iPad as well as a laptop / netbook. Not without giving up something big. Is an iPad something I will save up 3 years for? No.
I actually want one, but if you are a person that uses computers but like me cannot afford one of each type of device, you will get a laptop/netbook because the iPad *is* limited. (especially if you cannot afford a data plan to use it 3g)
If you are a person that doesn’t use computers then even if you have the disposable income and would get use out of it, you probably won’t pay $800 bucks + just to see what it’s like. People will gamble $150 on something they don’t know they will use or like though.
So… when iPads get down to a starting price of around $150 each, then they will truly be mass market. Then they will truly affect the way people “consume” media. And at that time, Apple’s control of that delivery mechanism may become something we all regret.
That’s a lot of if’s and maybe’s, which is why I’m not out picketing the local apple store 😉
