Agreed, Chris. I'm a hard core "geek" myself: so much so that I'd seriously consider buying a particular console to play a single really good game not available elsewhere. But firstly, I honestly can't name such a game on the PS3, and secondly, you'd have to be weird like me to even consider buying a console on such thin margin of justification.

The article I reference peers down from the "weirdo" or extremist stance and tries to imply that all those "other" people who have more sense are the weirdos ;)

I skimmed the article ... they seem to miss the fundamental principle that the majority of people do not buy game machines to experience state of the art ... they buy them to play games.

Likewise the majority of people buy computers to surf the net, store pics and music, and send e-mails.

Only hard core geeks care about rest.

You can go to food sites and read long in depth arguments on blade angles and the merits of polycarbonate vs glass vs stainless steel canisters and the benefits of a dedicated "smoothie" function ... but most people just want a blender that blends.

It's the Tunnel Vision Syndrome. It affects art critics, movie critics, sports reporters, computer people, hard core foodies or car nuts ... anyone that lives and works in a single field tends to loose touch with everything outside of it.

I mean "Dude! Chill! It's just a game." ;)
