Questions that make scientists lose sleep…

I read an interesting collection of scientific conundrums today. I like these kinds of articles or summaries. Sometimes we act as if science has answered all the questions, and the truth is that we keep uncovering more and bigger questions.

Its a good read…and I particularly enjoy the entries regarding Dark Energy and Dark Matter. Basically, they are huge, appalling fudge factors that cosmologists have had to plug in to keep the current models of the universe working.

And that’s the way it should be- the day that science answers all the questions will be a sad day indeed. But each mystery which is explained usually brings a bounty of new practical developments. I keep hoping that one of these mysteries will unlock a mechanism to allow us to reach the stars.
