I finally got that new heat sink for my server this afternoon. I shut the box down for an hour or two while I installed and tested to make sure the CPU wasn’t getting overly hot.
The new heatsink is by a company called Zalman, and because of its unique shape they call the heat sink a “flower” style [1]. Why did I go with such a funky looking heat sink? Well, mainly because of the positive user comments and the fact that the heat sink comes as a kit with everything, including thermal grease.
As a result, my server now has a flower. While I had the box open I upgraded its RAM as well, so now it finally has 1 GB. Bow down to my mighty three year old technology!
